The staff and peers at the Student Learning Commons (SLC) believe that mentorship leads to empowerment, ability, and confidence.

Coming to university can be intimidating for students. Their world gets bigger, the possibilities grow—but so do the fears. Having someone there when they need them, to help them navigate and overcome challenges, is invaluable.

The Student Learning Commons (SLC) provides writing and learning support services across the three SFU campuses. It works closely with the library, student services, faculty advisors, and many others, to provide effective “one stop, one step” academic support services for all SFU students. 

Donors to the SLC support lifelong learning, transformation, and growth—empowering students to be their very best. Since its launch in 2006, the SLC has grown to become a well-established and popular mentoring service that is in high demand with students. Last year, the SLC delivered 3,675 individual consultations, as well as 428 workshops with over 4,500 attendees. These services are enhanced with the support from donors.
