Policies & Guidelines

AAE collaborates closely with colleagues across the university to further SFU’s mission and reputation by strategically fundraising for the university’s priorities and creating meaningful, lifelong connections with our donor and alumni community.

We are governed by key polices at SFU—view below to find out what we are accountable for at SFU.

GP 03 Fundraising and Donations Policy

This policy is designed to guide the ethical, transparent, and effective management of donations to the university. With this policy SFU commits to adhering to ethical standards in fundraising practices and providing transparent reporting and communication with donors.

GP 20 Endowment Management Policy

The policy establishes the framework for management and oversight of the Endowment Fund, which is intended to generate investment earnings to ensure that the University is able to maintain the quantity and quality of projects and programs that are possible through the generosity of donors.

GP 35 Named Recognition Policy

This policy establishes guidelines for the naming of university assets and other entities such as academic chairs or academic units in recognition of significant philanthropic contributions from donors. This policy ensures that naming opportunities honour the intentions of donors while aligning with the university's values, mission, and strategic goals. The policy also acknowledges other types of contributions for granting named recognition such as the receipt of gifts of names from Host Nations, and various honorific categories based on academic achievements or service to the University. For In Memoriam and Honorific Naming at SFU, please refer to the two below guidelines.
