SFU Pride Student Leadership & Advocacy Award

This initiative recognizes and uplifts student leaders who are working to build a more inclusive, just world.

The SFU Pride Student Leadership & Advocacy Award recognizes and celebrates outstanding contributions by students who demonstrate exceptional leadership, advocacy, and a deep commitment to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and dignity for Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and other gender- and sexually-diverse communities – both within the university and beyond.

These students are often strong advocates who drive meaningful change – building safer spaces, challenging inequities, and educating others. Yet their work is frequently unpaid, emotionally demanding, and too often goes unrecognized. This award provides:

  • Financial support to ease the burden of advocacy work
  • Public recognition of courageous leadership
  • A platform to inspire others and drive systemic change

At least one award, valued at a minimum of $2,000, will be granted annually in any term to a full-time undergraduate student who is in good academic standing, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in any faculty at SFU, and has made outstanding contributions through exceptional leadership, advocacy, and commitment to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice—especially within the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities either on campus or within the boarder community.

With your support, we can:

  • Fund annual awards that celebrate 2SLGBTQIA+ student leaders
  • Grow a legacy of inclusion and equity at SFU
  • Send a clear message that 2SLGBTQIA+ voices matter
