June Glory Morrison was born June 19th, 1929. She grew up in Naicam, Saskatchewan and in 1953 married Ken Morrison.

The Morrison Clan moved to Thompson, Manitoba in 1963. There they spent their summers building a cabin on the shores of paint lake, where her children, and one day grandchildren would spend many cherished days in the summer.

Together June and Ken welcomed seven children: Robin, Becky, Shaun, Karen, Nancy, Beth and Rory. The "Morrison Girls" as they became known in town were famous for their long legs, percent for trouble, love of puffed wheat cake, uncanny closeness, always sitting on chairs sideways and unwillingness to shy away from a fight.

June worked for many years in the Post Office as she raised her children, and they began to leave home and move away. She is well remembered by many from Thompson who came to know and cherish her through her work.

The award recognizes and provides funding to Masters and PhD students in SFU's Gerontology program who are active in the community and volunteer and/or are passionate about finding better long-term care solutions for Canada's seniors. Rory hopes that the recipients of the award can carry on June's legacy of caring for others, working hard and spreading kindness.
