Dr. Jeremy Stone passed way in September of 2022. He was a dear colleague and friend of the Faculty of Environment and the Centre for Community Economic Development (CED) at Simon Fraser University (SFU).
As a former director of and instructor for the CED program, and as an adjunct professor with the School of Resource and Environmental Management, Jeremy is not only missed by those who worked with him, but also by those who studied with him, such was his impact in the classroom.
His contributions to the CED program were significant and many; he worked tirelessly to ensure Indigenous voices were heard and that the curriculum also included Indigenous worldviews. A fierce champion for Economic Reconciliation, he facilitated the creation of the “Step Into the River: A Framework for Economic Reconciliation” project led by Sxwpilemaát Siyám (Chief Leanne Joe, Squamish Nation).
He developed relationships across British Columbia (BC) to foster growth of CED’s certificate program and acted quickly to migrate courses from face-to-face learning to online learning during the early days of the pandemic. This resulted in partici...read more
