This weekend marks the one year anniversary of SFU student Meiyu Li's tragic passing at the age of 27. Meiyu was an outstanding economics PhD candidate who impressed all who knew her with her intelligence, generosity, enthusiasm and work ethic. She is greatly missed by the SFU Economics Department and wider SFU community.
Meiyu joined SFU Economics as an MA student in 2013 and quickly made a name for herself as an outstanding scholar, winning multiple departmental awards for her top academic achievements. She had already produced two publications and was working on her third publication in the prestigious Journal of Econometrics when her life was tragically cut short.
To honour Meiyu’s wish to give back to the SFU community, we need your help to establish the Meiyu Li Memorial Scholarship in Economics for outstanding international graduate students.
To date, thanks to generosity of faculty members, friends and colleagues, we have raised $10,000 to establish an endowment in Meiyu’s name. It is our hope to reach the $30,000 necessary to make this scholarship permanently available to support international graduate students.
To help us reach our $30,000 goal, SFU has made some funds available for matching donations.
Please join us in honouring and preserving Meiyu's legacy by visiting Meiyu Li Memorial Scholarship in Economics.
