By donating to the SFU Innovates Venture Fund, you can help promising ideas emerging from SFU research and talent move into the world, where they can improve lives, address real challenges and strengthen British Columbia’s social and economic wellbeing.
BE BOLD by moving innovation from discovery to impact
Bold ideas need more than inspiration. They need the right conditions to grow: research excellence, entrepreneurial talent, early-stage support, industry expertise and access to capital.
SFU is galvanizing our community to provide philanthropic support to innovative BC companies including a new partnership with InBC Investment Corp. to launch a $15-million investment fund supporting the growth of innovative B.C. companies built on SFU-developed technology. We also want to ensure that donors like you have an opportunity to support SFU talent and direct their charitable contributions to.
Bringing research into the world
SFU is home to researchers, students, alumni and entrepreneurs developing ideas with the potential to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time.
From clean energy and personalized medicine to quantum computing, life sciences, deep technology and cleantech, SFU’s innovation ecosystem helps turn discovery into practical solutions. The SFU Innovates Venture Fund will build on this strength by providing philanthropic support for early-stage companies founded by SFU researchers, students and alumni, with a focus on high-growth sectors identified by the Province.
This is how research becomes more than knowledge. It becomes companies, jobs, partnerships, public benefit and real-world impact.

SFU is consistently recognized as a global leader in impactful innovation for its interdisciplinary and collaborative innovation ecosystem.

Students, researchers, entrepreneurs, industry and community partners can access expertise, facilities, entrepreneurial programming and commercialization support at every stage of the innovation journey. SFU helps innovators build skills, develop ventures, mobilize research and translate knowledge into practical solutions.
Creator-owned IP
SFU’s intellectual property policy allows creators to retain control of their IP, empowering researchers to bring innovations from SFU labs to global markets while encouraging collaboration with industry partners through licensing and commercialization.
The future of innovation in British Columbia will be shaped by the choices we make now: how we support research, how we back talent, how we build companies and how we ensure the benefits of discovery are felt by communities.
Join us. Be part of the solution. BE BOLD with SFU.
By donating to support the SFU Innovates Venture Fund, you are helping SFU do what it does best: bring people, ideas and partners together to create solutions that matter.
