Stephens Family School of Medicine

The SFU Stephens Family School of Medicine is the first new medical school in Western Canada in nearly 60 years. Located at SFU Surrey in the heart of the Fraser Salish region, the School is preparing future physicians through a community-embedded approach to medical education grounded in primary care, social accountability, Indigenous knowledge systems, and culturally responsive care.

Designed to help address British Columbia's growing shortage of family doctors and primary care providers, the School emphasizes learning in and with communities. Students begin hands-on clinical experiences within their first two months of training and learn in settings that reflect the realities of health care delivery across the province.
