Canada continues to mourn the loss of all 176 people who perished in the crash of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 bound from Tehran to Kiev. Fifty-five passengers on board were Canadians; many of them university students, professors, and faculty members returning to their work or studies at institutions across the country after the winter holidays. Included in the unfathomable tragedy were cherished family members of SFU students. SFU is grateful for the leadership and support of the Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation for helping to establish this important scholarship.

“SFU and universities across Canada continue to grieve the loss of our colleagues and community members. This scholarship is a fitting tribute to those lost as it enables talented students to realize their dreams of a university education and build a brighter future for us all.”
Joy Johnson, President and Vice-Chancellor
