National Philanthropy Day originated in the 1980s as a day to celebrate charitable activities. By 1986, the United States officially proclaimed November 15 as National Philanthropy Day and since then communities across the globe have celebrated the value of giving.
Here at SFU, philanthropy is critical to our mission and we’re proud to use National Philanthropy day to acknowledge our generous supporters. Today, the role of the world’s great public research universities has never been more important, and as Canada’s leading comprehensive university, SFU is uniquely positioned to leverage its significant research pursuits to bring all facets of society together to help improve our world.
Thanks to our amazing benefactors, SFU is advancing research and making strong community connections to address some of society’s greatest challenges. From supporting our students through scholarships and bursaries to enhancing the social, economic, environmental and cultural well-being of communities both locally and globally, SFU contributors are making a huge difference in the lives of others.
As SFU celebrates National Philanthropy Day, we say thank you to our remarkable supporters who donate financially, contribute in-kind gifts to the university and volunteer their time to benefit others.
When working together in partnership, these altruistic commitments will indeed help change our world for the better.
